Biomass is the most important part of an anaerobic wastewater treatment plant. In UASB and EGSB systems granular biomass is used to convert the organic pollutants present in the wastewater into biogas. The design of the anaerobic reactor ensures ideal circumstances for granular biomass to grow and perform well.

To shorten the start-up time of a new anaerobic wastewater treatment plant, surplus granular biomass of operating anaerobic wastewater treatment plants is extracted and fed into the new plant. Biomass seeding is also used after calamities e.g. with toxication.

In some cases raw wastewater is short of (micro-) nutrients and/or trace elements which are necessary for the anaerobic conversion of wastewater. These nutrients and trace elements are needed to ensure a good performance of the bacteria.

Biothane's laboratory is provided with analysis equipment to determine all of the individual trace elements of a given wastewater sample. By this, adequate nutrient dosing advice can be given according to the outcomes of the analysis.

Vithane® is a special micro-nutrient solution nourishing the bacteria with the necessary vitamins' for optimal performance.

We deliver Vithane® on-site in differing package variants ranging from 20 liter cans to 900 liters IBC's.
