Biobed® EGSB Plant for Lactat Producer

Client

The client is the biggest producer of natural lactic acids and lactat products in the Netherlands. Providing several industries such as the food industry and the pharmaceutical industry, the production facility continuously grew. As the aerobic wastewater treatment facility was overcharged, Biothane was assigned to build an anaerobic wastewater treatment plant.

Treatment Process

The wastewater originating from the production process is supplied to a conditioning tank to prepare the effluent for anaerobic treatment. By means of a special influent distribution system it is thus introduced into the Biobed® EGSB reactor. While the water rises through a bed of biomass at the reactor ground, the anaerobic treatment takes place. Settlers at the top of the reactor separate the ascended biomass from the produced biogas and the treated water.

The treated water undergoes further aerobic post treatment in the existing aerobic treatment section of the plant. Sludge is collected in a sludge storage tank and the produced biogas is cleaned in a biogas scrubber before burning it in a biogas flare.
