The client's paper mill is located in Maanshan/Anhui province People's Republic of China. On site, the company is producing newsprint paper from the deinking process and testliner from OCC (old corrugated container) recycle paper. For the treatment of generated wastewater Biothane applied its efficient Biobed® EGSB technology.

Treatment Process
After pretreatment of the wastewater by means of primary clarification and cooling, the effluent enters a buffer tank.
In the following step, the pretreated water is supplied to a conditioning tank where optimum conditions for the anaerobic treatment step are provided (pH value, temperature).
In the anaerobic treatment the COD load is converted into biogas when rising through a bed of biomass at the reactor bottom. The anaerobic process is designed to remove 54% of the COD load present in the wastewater.
At the top of the reactor patented settlers separate the treated water from the produced biogas whereas the biomass is sagged to the reactor ground again.
