Biothane® UASB technology for Veryfine Inc.

Client

Veryfine Products Inc. is a famous American fruit juice and soft drink producer. Due to the company's ongoing commitment to preserving the environment, wastewater resulting from its production site in Massachusetts is being treated with Biothane´s advantageous anaerobic technologies in a design & build plant.

Treatment Process

Pre-treatment consists of a bar screen, influent sump, grit removal and rotary screen to remove debris from the influent stream. Once filtered, the wastewater is then pumped to the anaerobic plant.

The anaerobic process consists of two vessels. The buffer tank performs two functions. The first is to equalize the flow of wastewater to the anaerobic reactor and the second is to condition the wastewater for anaerobic digestion through temperature, pH, and nutrient adjustments. In the anaerobic Biothane® UASB reactor anaerobic bacteria convert the biodegradable waste material into biogas. Anaerobic digestion removes over 90% of the BOD.

The treated wastewater is then pumped into the aerobic Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR) that aerate, settle and decant the effluent. The clarified effluent passes through the addition of alum and polymer before it is sent to two parallel auto backwash filters.
