Borregaard has awarded Krüger Kaldnes the contract for the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant for its biorefinery in Sarpsborg. The project is executed in cooperation with the two sister companies; Krüger in Denmark and Biothane in the Netherlands.
The project comprises a complete wastewater treatment plant based on the anaerobic treatment technology using the patented Biobed® EGSB (Expanded Granular Sludge Bed) process which is a very compact process with a high performance that ensures an efficient reduction of organic matters. The process produces biogas which will replace the use of mineral oils in Borregaard's production.
The contract value is approx. € 14,300,000,-, and the plant is to be handed over in 2013.
"We are very pleased that Borregaard has chosen Krüger Kaldnes for the construction of the new wastewater treatment plant. Borregaard has one of the most advanced and sustainable biorefineries in the world, and it was an important prerequisite that the new wastewater treatment plant was based on a well-proven technology able to comply with the stringent standards of today." says Anette Æsøy, Ph.D./Sales Manager.
